Romantic Reel Picks

In case you don’t want to go out and brave the love-filled crowds on Valentine’s Day, why not curl up on the couch with your cutie and watch an oldie, but goodie love story? I’m a huge fan of nostalgia so popping in one of my favorite romantic DVDs is always a treat. The only problem is trying to convince my hubby to turn off ESPN and join me!

What’s your favorite big screen love story? Here are a few of my favorites starring us BGs and guys:


Love & Basketball (2000) starring Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan.


Brown Sugar (2002) starring Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan.


Boomerang (1992) starring Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens and Halle Berry.


Love Jones (1997) starring Larenz Tate and Nia Long.

    Nice picks! I'm Through With White Girls is one of my new favs. Also, Garden State, Pretty Woman and Mozart & The Whale.

    BGG, I LOVE all those but I must add The Titanic to my list and Troy! I mean they took down a whole city all for one chick...that's love! HOLLA!

    Nice selection! Brown Sugar and the Notebook are definitive in my collection. Another good movie is Things We Lost In The Fire with Halle Berry where you learn to accept the good with the bad.

    The Notebook is a definite must for me! I absolutely love that movie. I don't think that my husband will be watching it though. LOL

    Love Jones and Brown Sugar are my ultimate favs. I did like Love and Basketball even thought it was a bit cheesy but hey cheese is good.

    I like all those, I think I might be watching 300 on V-Day. It's something about gratuitous violence and 300 shirtless men that will make my day!

    "Love Jones" is my ultimate black love story. All of those movies are classics that are most definately in the personal collection. Even though its not on DVD yet, "7 Pounds" is up there too. I mean, he literally gave her his heart. It gets no more romantic than that!
