BGG Attends the 2008 Makeup Show

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend The Makeup Show 2008 held at the Metropolitan Pavilion here in NYC. As a lover of all things beautiful, I couldn't resist taking a peek at all of the latest cosmetics. I thought that it would be a smorgasbord of makeup goodies to try and buy, but I was so wrong!

Although there were over 50 makeup company representatives at the trade show, it was not what I was expecting. There were no sample-size promotional items available to the press for review, mini-makeovers were scarce and the seminars did not start on time. The only plus was that the vendors offered significant discounts to attendees, which mostly consisted of professional makeup artists. All in all, it was a pretty lackluster event.

One highlight was seeing the lovely BG, Keisha Nash-Whittaker of Kissable Couture and coming across a fairly new line founded by a BG based in Chicago, called Big Girl Cosmetics!

Have you tried any new makeup products lately? If so, please share!

Here are few products from Big Girl Cosmetics:

Ginger & Almond Body Butter available at www.biggirlcosmetics.com for $15

Brush Set available at www.biggirlcosmetics.com for $40

Mosaic Bronzer available at www.biggirlcosmetics.com for $40

Big Girl Cosmetics Diva Gloss available at www.biggirlcosmetics.com for $12

Aqua Creme available at www.biggirlcosmetics.com for $10

Sorry the show was a bust BG but your photo is great! And love those brushes. I'm a sucker for brushes.

Wow! I think I would have liked to attend something like this.
It would have given me the opportunity to look for that perfect lipstick that I keep searching for. It's like trying to find Mr. Right - you have an idea how he should look and feel and at times you think you found it. You buy the lipstick and take it home and it's not the same!!
I'm glad to know that there is still a possibility to find the right makeup!
I like the brush set and pink no less.

Hey BGG
I did not get to go so thanks for the update. Today is day 2 of the event, I wonder if the samples will hit the floor today?
Thanks for this post.

I think I would have enjoyed myself if I would have went. I'm trying all kinds of new stuff for the spring and summer. I recently tried some foundation my cousin had it was ok. I just want something to brighten my face a lil but not tell that I have on makeup. Any suggestions?

Mimi eyes you are hilarious and oh so right! At least with the lipstick you can just keep them all and use them as needed! hehehe As for your pics, BGG, I want the brush set for $40. I wanted one brush from MAC and it alone was $50! Thanks for the info!

Boo for a lackluster event. You know how I feel about people wasting my time. :P

The event may have been a bust but that photo is amazing. Still loving my Kissable Couture gloss, thanks for bringing it to us first bgg!

From the looks of the bright colored photo, I thought the event would have been just as "on and poppin'." Oh well, maybe next time...

I would love to try some of the cosmetics featured. I'm not much of a lipgloss fan (too greasy looking for my lips and face), but the lipgloss featured from Big Girl Cosmetics seem worth the try.

Okay, well I don't feel so bad for missing this event. I was really bummed out at missing it. But you got to see the beautiful Keisha? I still need to get hip to her products. I love her. And those brushes look diiiivine!

@ Everybody - Yes, those brushes are too cute and affordable compared to other brands! For those who wanted to go, be glad you missed it! It really was a waste of time in my book. Perhaps, it was better for professional makeup artists. Although, my cousin who is a professional makeup artist wasn't impressed either.

Thanks for the compliments on my photo taking skills! LOL!!

I was going to go, but something told me that it would be a waste of time, so I spent the day at home (plus i was deathly ill anyway). I have tried a few new make-up line called mineralogie. usually I don't like mineral make-up because it doesn't look too great on me, but this one beat all of my expectations
