Best Beauty Buys For Under 5 Bucks!

I know that BGG oftentimes encourages you to run out and buy a luxurious lipstick, or a pricey compact, but I know that times are hard. With the stressful economic struggles that we’re currently facing it can be unwise to make unnecessary expensive purchases; that’s why I’ve found these great beauty buys for under $5. Drugstore brands are usually just as good as the department store kind. Being beautiful doesn’t always have to break the bank.

Do you prefer purchasing drugstore brand cosmetics or higher-end makeup lines?

I just bought some new makeup from Walgreens the other day. I am very pleased with it thus far. It's the new Maybelline mineral foundation and bronzer. With 2-$2 off coupons and a BOGO sale, I only ended up spending 6 bucks. For me that's wonderful.

when it comes to things like eye lash curlers, tweezers or mascara...i would rather not spend more than $5 on it...hey the drugstore is cool with me : )

yes, also put the NYC Bronzer, it is one of the best I've used in a while.

I'll go cheap on mascara, but tend to be a make-up snob.

However, DE is right about the NYC bronzer.

Now you know I can be quite the Beauty Snob but when it comes to glosses and liners, I'll rock drugstore all the way. Drugstore lines like NYX and Milani are just as good as, if not better than higher end brands. Loves it!!

I would have to say I have a mix of things, from expensive things from sephora or dept store to drug store items from a buy 1 get 1 free sale at CVS. However, I will say that when it comes to my face makeup (press powder, etc.), I pay the big bucks.

thanks for speaking to the bargain-hunter in me! i have two covergirl wet slicks glosses and i like them well enough but i feel like i have to reapply much more often than i do with my mac lipglasses.

I'm usually a department store makeup girl but my fave drugstore beauty buy is mascara. I go for Great Lash mostly or Cover Girl Volume exact.

Maybelline foundation, eh? I might just give it a try. And thank you ma'am for showing the low budget options.

Nice. I may just have to try the Milani lipsticks. Queen Latifah's covergirl lipglosses are GREAT and some of their colors resemble MAC's lipglosses... without the sticky feeling.

I've tried lip gloss from Victoria's Secret. That's about it for me. I tend to purchase the high end products. However, lately I've been quite disappointed with it. Thanks for the alternatives.

I don't mind purchasing from a drug store it's just that once I find something I like, it's hard to switch. You are so right about hard times though so maybe I might need to give up MAC for a minute. When I purchase my usual stash, I'm always horrified at the cost of beauty. If I could save a penny and still be fabulous, it would be worth it!

Hi BGG
It really depends, I like some drugstore brands but not all of them. You couldn't pay me enough to wear wet and wild products..lol
However not all high ends brands work well either so it is such a toss up at times.

Recently I've been hooked on department store makeup... But I don't really discriminate.

Believe me when I say this, BGG - there is absolutely no stopping you.

I mostly purchase drug store products. Loreal hip is my favorite. Would love to purchase more mac and other dept store brands but I just can't afford it right now.

I just read in the October issue of Allure that Milani won for Best Cheap Thrills for their nail polish - which is amazing!!! I love that brand. There is no need to spend the big bucks. This rivals all the biggies like MAC and Laura Mercier.

Wow!! great low budget suggestions. I have used the Milani lipsticks and it is a great buy. They have good colors and the lipstick is very creamy.

With today's economy, I predict more women will start to frequent drug stores. While I prefer department store lipsticks (the drug store ones taste horrible) and foundations, I use drug stores for my mascara, nail polish and body lotion needs.

thanks for the suggestions BGG!, I use Cover Girl & Maybelline religiously! (I love their lip glosses and foundations)

I splurge on creams and powder, but I always go cheap on the "accessories" for my face like blush and eyeshadow. Since colors go in and out of style I like to be able to experiment and if I don't like it, not feel bad when I throw it in the trash

Hi BGG, Thanks for some really good suggestions. I tend to be a snob with certain things but a frugle missy when it comes to other things like lash curlers and mascara.
Great post!

My budget is mainly drug store or Ulta with a coupon. I have bought HIP (Walgreens and CVS), Urban Decay( Ulta), and MAC(Ebay). I don't know how many can afford the MAC and high end makeup. But they are things at other level that are quite good for the money.

I buy a few stuff from drugstores, With foundation though I always go high-end since I can test it out at dept stores since my skin tone can be difficult to match. But drugstore makeup is a great way to experiment with colors and such.
