Eye-Opening Shadows

I am definitely a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, but there is one product that I rarely use - eyeshadow. I don't know why, but I never seem to apply it properly so that it actually accentuates or enhances my eyes. After recently viewing the beautiful photos of my fellow beauty bloggers like B, PJD and Yummy411's eyeshadow applications, I am determined to give my eyes some much needed sparkle and shimmer! I like the smoky eye effect and gold tones the most.

Do you wear eye shadow? If so, what are your favorite brands and color combinations?

you know, my favourite shadows actually come from cover girl. when when i was doing makeup a few years back, i always found that they had the most amazing array of shades, and you could buy almost any colour from any store in a pinch. i still have a lot of my stash, and the CG shadows definitely get some love.

i'd have to say, though, that clinique is my top-rated in terms of quality... and makeup forever in terms of selection. MACs formulas have changed over the years, and i find them too powdery.

just my two cents! :)

Practice makes perfect. When I firs started wearing eye shadow, it was a mess! As I look back on some of my pictures from back in the day, I think to myself "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T MY FRIENDS TELL ME I LOOKED A HOT MESS!" I think it's because they didn't know any better. Now, I consider myself a journeyman of some sorts. I've come a long way, but not a make-up artist. For me I think it's in the brush application and the product. I love MAC...I think the key to applying make properly is to get the eye shadow on the brush and tap the brush gently to remove the excess from the brush! I've never had good experiences with over hte counter make-up so I tend to just buy my stuff in department stores. Maybe, I'll give them a a try again! Anyway, good luck and let us know how it goes!

BGG, I love the look of eyeshadow but it just doesn't work on my big Diana Ross eyes! If I could I would wear the earth tones!

I don't really wear eye shadow, but if I decide, my favorite brand is Cover Girl, they have a variety of shades and I love how they have color and shimmer (my fave shade is coffee shop).

I LOVE eye shadow. I'm a product junkie on a budget though, so I'm forced to buy Cover Girl compacts, which have great color palettes, but if you drop it one time it shatters to pieces.

I also buy what I like and rarely keep up with the "trendy colors" I do browns and golds during the day, black or purple smudges at night and pastels greens and lavender for weddings and special occasions.

Great topic.

I don't really like a made up look per say. I lean more toward a less is more approach with cosmetics....I'm a liner and mascara girl tho, in colors that pop...love my liner just enough color etc to enhance a bit without the whole made up look.

I'm with you bgg, I never know what to do with eyeshadow. I only use it if I'm going out at night and just put one color on my entire lid. I just saw some instant eyeshadow strips from avon that are pre styled and you just rub on your eye, I was thinking of giving those a try. Has anyone out there heard of them or tried them?

Yay, BGG loves me! You made my day! I love love love eye shadow and its versatility. It definitely takes a ton of practice to achieve the look you may be looking for. My favorite brands? I'm all over MAC, Milani, Too Faced, NARS and L'Oreal HIP!

I'm actually not an eye shadow kind of gal but when something BIG is going on then I may apply a little color to my lids but nothing crazy.
I think color would look great on your eyes.
thx 4 the shout out!

As lipstick makes your lips sexy, eye shadow does bring the color and shape out of your eyes. I'm hooked on silver because it helps make my eyes look less tried.
I've been using Urban Decay and I love it. My previous love was with Mac.
Because I wear contact lenses I can't wear shadows that are to powdery I prefer creamy.

I, too, have just begun to make my way through the eyeshadow maze. I've tried MAC, Make Up Forever(best quality so far), and a few drugstore brands, but I have not been consistent until I discovered Victoria's secret Beauty Rush shadows. The colors are easy and quick to apply, blendable and come in a nice range. It's like beginner's eyeshadow! You simply brush the sponge applicator across your lid, crease and brow bone, then use a blend brush to soften. It takes all of 5 minutes or less. I have no idea what I'm doing and I look great everytime. When I truly get the hang of it, I'll probably stick with MakeUp Forever though.

I'm like you with eye shadow. I never seem to get it right so I rarely ever use it. Thanks for this post. Great suggestions.

I actually just started dappling into eye shadow at the beginning of the summer and its really fun once you get the hang of it, its alot of fun. I tend to use Bare Essentials and MAC alot because it has good coverage and it lasts for quite some time. Its also priced reasonably.
