Toss the Gloss

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a gloss girl, but this upcoming fall season I want to give my gloss a break and give lipsticks a go! For years I've been applying shiny glosses with a barely-there tint on my lips. This time around I want to vamp it up a bit by trying a few deeper berries, browns and burgundies and possibly even some subdued red shades. My husband thinks that red lips are a no-no for women of all shades, but I'm going to try to prove him wrong! It's going to be hard giving up the gloss, but as I said last week, change is good! If I don't like it, I can always go back to my favorites.

Do you prefer gloss or lipstick? Are you going to wear darker matte hues this fall and winter?

Check out some of these lush lip colors:

Bobbi Brown Lipstick Color Palette available at www.saks.com for $40

OMG I love all of these colors, I am a gloss girl too! But why not try something new for fall.

I always do gloss for the easiness of it but for getting dress up and going out its always full out lipstick. It gives a finished glamorous look. Great post!

I prefer glosses, but I'm not opposed to lipstick. I find myself putting clear MAC lipglass on top of any matte lipstick (out of habit), so I'm not sure if it counts as lipstick. :)

I LOVE my gloss... Can't give that up yet. Although if I'm going out I'm more apt to experiment- I've tried the red lips (MAC's 'Russian Red'), and I've done the nude, matte lip. But for my daily routine, I MUST have my gloss! lol

I prefer lipstick, but have trouble finding colors that look good so I end up wearing a lot of gloss. My husband thinks they look like tinted vaseline.

I won't go for the deep colors this fall. I don't think they're flattering at 40-plus. So the deepest I'll go is a shimmery mauve.

I love glosses, too. I've never been a lipstick kinda girl, but recently I've been giving them a try and they aren't so bad!

I am a total gloss girl but I do own some lipsticks. I will get the bing lip mattene from MAC from the cult of cherry collection, it is a dark wine.

I am sooo a gloss girl. I love my lips and a nice shiny gloss gives them a fantastic sexy pouted look. I like the colors on the chicks in the blog pics but I can't see myself trying them. I confess, I am scared of color. I've always thought lipstick was better reserved for after hours events and beauty pageants. LOL.

I love my gloss. Shiny lips are just sexy to me. I did just buy some deep berry lip stick that I've been wearing for the last month. Its cool I still put a little shine on top of it. I think without it I look dull.

I am not a gloss girl...yuk to shiny lips. I love the matte look and while I steer clear of out and out reds, I do go for some color. MACs Spice it Up is my favorite right now but thanks to you, I'll be crossing over to some of these beautiful shades. I feel so sexy when I put color on my lips and matte makes it look as though it is just the natural color of my lips! Plus, no gloss gives me the opportunity to lick my beautiful bee stung lips often...you know like when I catch a man looking at my lips. I give them a quick once over with my tongue. You young girls don't get it. You were created with your own ready made gloss! Toss the gloss and work what you got!

I been on matte lipsticks HARD for a minute now, prolly since Winter 06.
I love the richness and the bursts of color that only a lipstick can provide. Lip glosses are ok but now that I am over 30 I love the sophisticated chic and dramatics that lipsticks feature.
Any woman can wear red lips by the way, its classic, with so many shades, you just have to find the one that best compliments your skintone .

You know what, I am with you on this one. I've tried to do this before, but in the end I had to go back to my love of the gloss.

I prefer gloss, I like my lips to be moisturized and I like the color plus the sheen.

OMG, I loooove that NARS Afghan Red. I've been wearing at least every other day.

@Everyone - As you can see I couldn't stay away from the gloss!! LOL!!

I just cannot toss the gloss! I think for me lipstick is more "done" and requires a full face of makeup while gloss is casual and more in line with my less than 5 minute morning routine!

I am still hanging in there with my gloss - Shock-o-laite complimentary of MAC.

I used to love a dark lipstick when I was younger, now I go for neutral glosses. So I don't think i'll be trying out these new shades... well, maybe for a night out!

I was a gloss girl because I could never find lipsticks that work well on darker-skinned women--until I tried NARS. NARS has an array of beautiful colours for darker skin tones. Yay NARS!

I love, love, love gloss! I do have the Viva Glam VI lipstick, but I just can't bring myself to wear it without gloss on top.
