Enticing Scents

They say men are first attracted to a woman's scent. If that's the case, I don't know what attracted my husband to me because I never wear perfume!

As I have stated before on BGG, I love the scents of lotions and potions, but not really fragrance sprays. That's until I got a whiff of R&B singer, Usher's scent, SHE. After sampling the celebrity-endorsed perfume, I started to think, "Perhaps, I really can wear a fragrance without it making me nauseous!" I'm not 100% sure just yet if I'd actually purchase a bottle of perfume, but who knows, I just might give it a try! From light, floral scents to more intense aromas, there is something out there for just about everyone.

BGs, what are some of your favorite fragrances? Guys, does a woman's scent really get your attention? Please share!

Here are a few popular celebrity scents:

Beyonce True Star for Women available at www.walmart.com for $26.58

Still by Jennifer Lopez available at www.walmart.com for $38.44

Mariah Carey's Eau de Parfum Spray available at www.macys.com for $52.50

SHE by Usher availalbe at www.macys.com for $68

Wow BGG I didn't know when it would happen but I knew I would find another woman in this world not into perfumes..lol Now I feel like I need to smell Ushers fragrance. What people generally smell on me is the scent of my lotion, which is usually fruity, like something from the 100% pure line or something sweet. Or they are getting the scent of my hair most likely the Jane carter nourishing hair cream.
Thanks for this post, I guess it is time that I smell like more than an apple.. :-)

im like you and product junkie diva. i usually smell like dove soap or cocoa and shea butter lotion. i tried to start simple with the vickies mists but they usually end up evaporating rather than actually being on my body. good post!

I was once like you I didn't care to wear perfumes but I would always smell them. But when baby phat came out with the pink perfume I forgot the name of it I feel in love and from that moment after I purchased it I can't go without it. I also liked the gold perfume she came out with and the latest one OH MY GOD I'm even more in love with. Fabulosity smells so good I'm actually going to buy a bottle well two today.

I've heard the Sean John smells good to I might have to try that and Usher's.

Never wore perfume until this year when I decided to challenge myself to wear scent every day, be it lotion, perfume, or oil.

So far, I love: Estee Lauder Beautiful Love, La Vanila Pure Vanilla, and Marc Jacobs.

I get the most compliments on the La Vanila and Marc Jacobs from both men and women!

I have such a sensitive nose that I should be working for one of these perfume companies. For the same reason I can't use most of them.
Most of them are very strong on the sweet side or the musk side.
I much prefer the light perfumes.
I would like to try Beyonce true star.

I love perfumes. I hate the cost though, so I usually switch it up with body sprays. To eliminate that cookie-cutter smell, I also mix body sprays and perfumes.

Don't worry, I test the scents out on the weekends, so I don't kill anyone at work trying new stuff.

I wear Burberry Brit most often (LOVE IT) and DKNY Light Blue is THAT DEAL.

My mom wears Usher for women and while I don't love it, her husband thinks it's fab.

As far as usher for men... One of my guys wear it and if every man wore that scent every woman in the world would be pregnant... I'm just sayin'

:)

BGG, there are very few fragrances that don't give me a headache so when I find one that I can tolerate I stick with it. I love Pheromone, White Linen and Caroline Herrer(sp?) but I think they're out dated so I don't buy them anymore. Can a scent be played out? I want to try some of the new ones you listed but I'm scared of the migrain that might follow. Thank God for body sprays!

I have Chanel No. 5 but I don't wear it on the regular. Only for special occasions. Other than that, I'll use Vickie's Secret body sprays and lotions in Love Spell and Endless Love.

Wow. I'm not a big scent girl esp. not celeb scents, but I'll have to check out SHE. I do like Jo Malone scents and Joy which is a classic.

The New York Times had an article, "The Sweet Smell of... Nothing" (By Natasha Singer; Published on February 14, 2008 ). It mentioned the declining sales of perfume, despite the increasing variety of choices. Some people chose not to wear perfume, because they don't want to invade other people's personal space -- What smells good to us, smells terrible to someone else. The article explained my reason for not wearing it. When wear it, I prefer subtle scents, and I don't want people to guess the brand. I WEAR THE PERFUME, for it's my signature scent. However, this post definitely inspires me. When I receive my tax refund, I will do my patriotic duty to temporarily float the economy by buying a bottle of perfume.

It's so cool to hear different people's takes on perfume! I'm in the "I hate most perfume" camp. I do love this one perfume oil called "Child," which smells absolutely amazing and which I dab on often. I also love Chanel No. 5, though I haven't bought it in a while. There's a place in Portland, Oregon, a couple of hours away from me, called The Perfume House. It's owned by a "nose," a highly sensitive and trained perfumer, and stocks only perfumes made from real extracts of plants, herbs, etc. I'm planning to make a pilgrimage there soon and will share on my blog when I do. I have a feeling there's a whole, deep world of fragrance out there other than what we usually smell at the perfume counter.

@Everyone - I guess I'm not the only woman who doesn't really like perfume! LOL

I love the smell of my girlfriend. But it is not necessarily her scent or perfume but just the way she smells naturally (but clean ..). For some reason she always just smells nice.

@K-Bear - Great question...I don't know if perfumes/fragrances ever go out of style. I do remember when everyone loved Clinique's Happy fragrance. I don't hear much about it now so perhaps they do get "played out."

Do you guys have the answer?

I was never really into perfumes until I received Hermes D'orange Vert for my birthday. This is actually a mans cologne but the giver of the gift remembered that my favorite smells are oranges and ajax (yes the ajax you clean with). And Hermes smells exactly like that, SO CLEAN and FRESH

[first time]
A lady's scent definitely gets me and I usually imagine it before I actually come into contact with it.

Now I'm talking about the scent the lady purchases and wears, I'm talking about the natural scent that seep from her pores. Perfumes are nice, but that usually interferes and ANYBODY can smell like that. Only you can smell like you.

I just stumbled upon your blog while looking for a skinny yellow belt to go with a great dress I just recently bought...I'm definately going to go perfume shopping and appreciate the pointers on what smells good out there, one can be overwhelmed by the blinding florescent lights and sales representatives lurking around every countertop inside of the department store's perfume departments, but I think I can manage. :)
